Khao Kheow Open Zoo is one of the largest open-concept zoos in Asia, covering approximately 800 hectares in the forested hills of Si Racha District, Chonburi Province, southeast of Bangkok. Established in 1974 and opened to the public in 1978 under the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand, the zoo is home to more than 8,000 animals from over 300 species. Highlights include the Cats Complex Park with 48 feline species across eight themed enclosures, and a variety of African and Asian megafauna. Visitors can walk, drive, or hire a golf cart to explore the expansive grounds, and a night safari runs on weekends. Notable residents include the baby pygmy hippopotamus Moo Deng. The zoo is open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and is an outstanding destination for families and wildlife enthusiasts.
