City Farm de Houthoeve, known as Stadsboerderij de Houthoeve, is a charming urban farm nestled within the Haarlemmerhout park in Haarlem, Netherlands, founded in 1982 as a municipal initiative to connect city residents with nature. The farm is home to horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, deer, llamas, chickens, rabbits, and guinea pigs, offering families and children a hands-on experience with a wide variety of animals. Artisklas Haarlem is proudly recognized as the smallest official zoo in the Netherlands, located in Haarlem-Noord and operated entirely by dedicated volunteers since 1977. Despite its compact size, the zoo houses a diverse collection of reptiles, invertebrates, and larger animals in outdoor enclosures, complemented by a unique diorama featuring eight different biotopes with taxidermied specimens, as well as skull and shell collections. Open on Saturdays and Sundays, Artisklas offers visitors an intimate and personal wildlife experience, with knowledgeable volunteer staff who actively engage guests through educational talks and hands-on animal interactions.
