The Wilder Institute's Calgary Zoo is Canada's most-visited zoo, located on St. George's Island just five minutes from downtown Calgary, Alberta. Founded in 1929 and spanning 125 acres, the zoo is home to over 4,000 animals representing more than 100 species, organised into distinct zones that take visitors on a journey through the world's major ecosystems. Wild Canada features grizzly bears, polar bears, wood bison, grey wolves, river otters, and Canada lynx; Destination Africa showcases giraffes, gorillas, and lemurs; and the Rainforest zone houses crocodiles, colobus monkeys, and western lowland gorillas. The ENMAX Conservatory offers tropical gardens, a rainforest, and a butterfly garden. As a not-for-profit conservation organisation, the zoo actively supports national and international species recovery programs and is internationally recognised for its conservation research, making it both an exciting family destination and a meaningful centre for wildlife protection.
