El Nispero Zoo and Botanical Garden is a charming 2.8-hectare zoo located at the foot of Cerro Gaital National Monument in El Valle de Antón, a mountain village set within a dormant volcano crater about two hours from Panama City. Home to more than 90 animal species, the zoo features 55 bird species including exotic golden pheasants and white peacocks as well as rare tropical species, alongside ostriches, tapirs, monkeys, crocodiles, toucans, macaws, and turtles, set among extensive botanical garden plantings. El Nispero is also home to EVACC, an amphibian conservation center sponsored by major American zoos that works to protect the endangered golden frog. Open daily except Tuesday, this small but beloved attraction offers a relaxed and educational wildlife experience.
