Scovill Zoo is a vibrant community zoo located in Decatur, Illinois, home to more than 400 animals representing nearly 100 species from six continents. Visitors can encounter cheetahs, lemurs, meerkats, sloths, Humboldt penguins, flamingos, bald eagles, wallabies, and many more fascinating creatures across approximately 30 exhibits, including a popular petting zoo. Family highlights include the Endangered Species Carousel with 30 hand-carved wooden animals representing threatened species from around the world, and the Z.O. and O. Express Train, which offers a narrated one-mile tour through the grounds and along scenic Lake Decatur. A community-built playground and spacious picnic areas round out the experience. Scovill Zoo offers free Thursday admission during the summer months, making it an especially accessible and enjoyable destination for families throughout central Illinois.
