The Harold H. Malkmes Wildlife Education and Ecology Center, commonly known as the Holtsville Wildlife and Ecology Center, is a free public wildlife facility operated by the Town of Brookhaven on Long Island in Holtsville, New York. Situated on the site of a former landfill, the center is home to more than 100 injured or non-releasable wild and farm animals, including bison, bobcats, American bald eagles, black bears, peacocks, and other native species. The facility features ecology exhibits, educational tours, greenhouses, a nature preserve, and free compost services for residents. One beloved resident is the groundhog Holtsville Hal, who emerges each Groundhog Day to make a weather prediction. The center also offers a triple pool complex and picnic areas, making it a popular family destination in Suffolk County.
