Aquarium of the Bay is a Smithsonian-affiliated marine attraction situated at PIER 39 on the historic San Francisco waterfront in California. Home to more than 24,000 animals, the aquarium immerses visitors in the ecosystems of San Francisco Bay through a network of exhibits including 300 feet of walk-through acrylic tunnels filled with schooling anchovies, bay rays, skates, and sharks. Additional habitats feature secretive octopuses, hypnotic jellyfish, playful river otters, and a diverse range of species native to the Bay and its watershed. The aquarium's nonprofit mission is centered on protecting and restoring San Francisco Bay from the Sierra Nevada to the sea, and it supports collaborative marine research, environmental grants, shark-tagging studies, and sustainable seafood education. Touch pools, live animal presentations, and an educational focus on ocean conservation make Aquarium of the Bay an engaging and meaningful experience for visitors of all ages.
