Paramaribo Zoo is the only zoological garden in Paramaribo, Suriname, and has been welcoming visitors since its founding in 1972. Approximately 75 percent of the animals housed here are native to Suriname, including many individuals confiscated from illegal wildlife trade or rescued from mistreatment, reflecting the zoo's strong conservation mission. Highlights include jaguars, giant otters, vibrant red ibises, kwatta monkeys on island exhibits, caimans, boa constrictors, and anacondas. The zoo features a petting area, playground, and family-friendly amenities, making it a beloved attraction that combines wildlife appreciation with meaningful efforts to protect Suriname's extraordinary natural heritage.
