ABQ BioPark Aquarium

The ABQ BioPark Aquarium is a fascinating public aquarium located alongside the Rio Grande in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and is part of the city's larger BioPark complex. The aquarium takes visitors on a journey from the headwaters of the Rio Grande to the Gulf of Mexico and South Pacific, showcasing freshwater and saltwater species from a variety of habitats including surf zones, coral reefs, and the deep ocean. The centerpiece is a breathtaking 285,000-gallon shark tank with a massive 38-foot-wide viewing window, where guests can observe multiple shark species, stingrays, and a sea turtle up close. Additional highlights include a South Pacific Gallery with seahorses and colorful reef fish, a North American River Otter exhibit, and Rio Grande displays featuring both current and historically extinct native fish. The aquarium also operates conservation programs for the Rio Grande silvery minnow and the Socorro isopod.
