Akvariet i Bergen, known as Norway's national aquarium, is located at Nordnesbakken on the Nordnes peninsula in Bergen. The aquarium showcases a wide range of marine and freshwater life across themed exhibits including The Blue Forest, an underwater rainforest concept, The Watercourse, and The Ocean in Change, which addresses environmental themes. Resident animals include penguins, sea otters, sea turtles, rays, and diverse fish species. Families can enjoy close encounters through the Zookeeper for a Day programme for children aged 8–12, guided tours, birthday parties, and even overnight stays. A waterfront restaurant and gift shop round out the visit. As a member of both WAZA and EAZA, Bergen Aquarium upholds high standards of animal welfare and runs educational initiatives such as Research Friday, making it a leading destination for marine education on Norway's west coast.
