The Butterfly House and Aquarium, part of the Great Plains Zoo campus in Sertoma Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is the only public saltwater aquarium in the Dakotas and one of the few butterfly houses in the nation open year-round. The Aquarium Gallery displays hundreds of species of fish and corals in over 10,000 gallons of saltwater tanks, featuring marine life from the Indo-Pacific and Caribbean, including short-tail nurse sharks, seahorses, anemones, and vibrant reef fish. The butterfly house is home to over 800 free-flying butterflies from around the globe in a 3,600-square-foot tropical conservatory. A Discovery Den provides interactive exhibits and educational activities for children and families, making this a uniquely diverse and engaging attraction for visitors of all ages.
