Cairns Aquarium

Cairns Aquarium is a world-class public aquarium in the heart of Cairns, Queensland, that opened in 2017 as the only aquarium on Earth dedicated exclusively to the aquatic wildlife of Tropical North Queensland's two World Heritage-listed ecosystems, the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics Rainforest. The aquarium is home to more than 15,000 animals displayed across 71 exhibits and 10 distinct ecosystems, ranging from freshwater streams and mangrove boardwalks to coral reef oceanariums and open-ocean displays. Notable features include Australia's only ten-metre Deep Reef Tank, a 360-degree oceanarium, a 20-metre underwater tunnel, and Australia's largest freshwater exhibit. Visitors encounter estuarine crocodiles, pig-nosed turtles, freshwater stingrays, giant mud crabs, pythons, reef sharks, colourful coral fish, and much more. Daily animal presentations, keeper talks, shark and ray feeds, and a marine touch tank create an engaging, educational visit for families, nature enthusiasts, and visitors of all ages exploring Far North Queensland.
