Calatrava Monkey Sanctuary

The Calatrava Monkey Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary located in Sitio Paitan, Barangay Paghumayan, in the municipality of Calatrava, Negros Occidental, Philippines, about 101 kilometers from Bacolod City. Covering nearly 11 hectares of land purchased by the municipal government, the sanctuary is home to hundreds of native Philippine long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis) that roam freely among the trees rather than being caged. The monkeys are accustomed to human presence and will readily approach visitors, making for a memorable and immersive wildlife encounter. Guests are encouraged to bring food for the monkeys, adding an interactive dimension to the visit. The sanctuary serves as a refuge for these native primates while offering an accessible and informal wildlife experience for families and tourists passing through northern Negros Occidental.
