Ellen Trout Zoo

Ellen Trout Zoo is a beloved small zoo in Lufkin, Texas, widely acclaimed as one of the finest city zoos in the nation. Founded in 1967 and set on the shores of a picturesque lake, the zoo is home to nearly 800 wild and exotic animals representing approximately 50 species involved in Species Survival Plans. Visitors can encounter an extraordinary variety of wildlife including hippos, lions, Malayan tigers, southern white rhinos, Masai giraffes, Komodo dragons, Siamese crocodiles, Galapagos tortoises, clouded leopards, Chilean flamingos, toco toucans, river otters, and many more. A miniature pre-Civil War train replica circles the lake and winds through beautiful pine trees, adding a classic touch to the visit.
