Fingal Wildlife Management Area

Fingal Wildlife Management Area is a 724-acre crown land site located near St. Thomas in Elgin County, Ontario, accessible from Highway 401 interchange 157 at Iona Road. Managed for both wildlife habitat and outdoor recreation, the area is a recognized birding hotspot with over 200 species recorded during breeding and migration seasons, including waterfowl, ring-necked pheasants, and a wide variety of songbirds. Three hiking trails wind through restored habitats featuring ponds, hedgerows, prairie plantings, and reforested woodlands, with viewing stands providing excellent wildlife observation opportunities. Conservation work by the Elgin Stewardship Council includes pond development, shrub and tree planting, and prescribed habitat management. Interpretive signage, stargazing programs, and youth hunting education events make it a welcoming outdoor destination for nature enthusiasts and families throughout the year.
