Giants Castle Game Reserve

Giants Castle Game Reserve is a 34,638-hectare protected area in the heart of the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park UNESCO World Heritage Site in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, proclaimed in 1903 and managed by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife. Named for the sleeping-giant silhouette formed by the towering Drakensberg peaks, the reserve is celebrated for its dramatic mountain scenery, sweeping grasslands, and remarkable natural and cultural heritage. It is home to large herds of eland, diverse antelope, baboons, and over 200 bird species, and is internationally renowned as a sanctuary for the endangered Bearded Vulture. More than 5,000 San rock paintings found within the reserve offer a remarkable window into the lives of the region's early hunter-gatherers. Activities include hiking, mountain climbing, trout fishing, and guided rock art tours, with a range of self-catering chalets and lodge accommodation available for visitors.
