Gladys Porter Zoo

Gladys Porter Zoo is a celebrated 31-acre zoological oasis in the heart of Brownsville, Texas, renowned for its lush tropical plantings and exceptional success in breeding endangered species. Home to approximately 1,600 animals representing 377 species, the zoo is organized into four geographic areas: Africa, Asia, Tropical America, and Indo-Australia, complemented by a Herpetarium, Aquarium, a free-flight Tropical America Aviary, Macaw Canyon, Bear Grottos, and a Komodo dragon exhibit. The zoo's conservation mission is far-reaching, encompassing support for Kemp's ridley sea turtles, Western lowland gorillas, Philippine crocodiles, and participation in the AZA's Species Survival Plan program.
