Henson Robinson Zoo is a nonprofit zoo owned and operated by the Springfield Park District, situated on the eastern shore of Lake Springfield in Springfield, Illinois. Established in 1970, the zoo displays more than 300 animals representing 90 species native to Australia, Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Visitors can encounter African penguins, red wolves, African painted dogs, American black bears, cougars, spider monkeys, lemurs, wallabies, and a variety of reptiles and birds in naturalistic exhibits. The grounds also feature a barnyard, a children's garden, an amphitheater, a petting area, concessions, and a gift shop. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Henson Robinson Zoo provides an accessible and engaging wildlife experience for families throughout central Illinois.
