La Guaricha Zoo

La Guaricha Zoo is a municipal zoological park located less than 400 meters from the center of Maturín, the capital of Monagas State in northeastern Venezuela, on Avenida Raul Leoni. Built between 1976 and 1978 and officially opened in 1979, the park covers approximately seven hectares and takes its name from an indigenous term affectionately used to refer to children. La Guaricha Zoo is home to a rich variety of native Venezuelan wildlife, including jaguars, pumas, deer, owls, cranes, toucans, monkeys, capybaras, alligators, blue-and-yellow macaws, and peacocks. Beyond its animal exhibits, the park features an artificial lagoon with boating, a children's playground, and a fountain, making it a vibrant recreational and educational destination for families and school groups in the Monagas region.
