La Laguna Zoo

La Laguna Zoo is a small historical zoological garden located in Capacho Nuevo, near the city of San Cristóbal, in the Municipality of Independencia in Táchira State, western Venezuela. Founded in 1955, it is the third-oldest zoo in Venezuela and has been managed by the municipal government since 2001. Covering approximately 1.4 hectares, the park is built around a natural lagoon and is home to up to 32 animal species. The main attraction is the Frontino bear, also known as the spectacled bear, a species native to the Andean regions of South America. La Laguna Zoo serves as a local wildlife conservation and education resource, offering residents and visitors of the Táchira region an accessible and welcoming setting to observe Venezuelan fauna in a peaceful, natural environment.
