Mitchell Park Zoo is a charming and intimate zoo situated in the leafy Morningside suburb of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, and is the only zoo within the city. Originally established as an ostrich farm in 1910, the zoo has evolved over more than a century into a beloved community attraction. Today it houses a variety of smaller animals including blue duikers, Aldabra giant tortoises, raccoons, wallabies, crocodiles, and an engaging collection of primates such as white-eared marmosets, cotton-top tamarins, and black-capped squirrel monkeys. A popular walk-through aviary, meerkats, banded mongooses, and ground squirrels add to the appeal. The zoo also features a children's playground, the Blue Zoo tea garden, and spacious lawns perfect for family picnics, making it a relaxed and family-friendly destination.
