Monkey Sanctuary, located in Hartbeespoort in the Bojanala Platinum District of South Africa's North West Province, is one of only eight free-release primate sanctuaries in the world. Set on approximately seven hectares within a kloof of the scenic Magaliesberg mountain range, the sanctuary provides a safe haven for squirrel monkeys, capuchin monkeys, and other primates that were formerly kept as pets or bred for the pet trade. Visitors explore enchanting indigenous forest on elevated wooden walkways, observing the primates in a natural, non-interactive setting. Highly informative guided tours raise awareness about primate welfare and the importance of wildlife sanctuaries over the pet trade.
