Mull Aquarium

Mull Aquarium, based in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull in the Scottish Hebrides, holds the distinction of being Europe's first community-run catch-and-release aquarium. Operated by the Tobermory Harbour Association, this innovative not-for-profit venue displays over 60 species across 13 tanks, featuring creatures such as crabs, lobsters, octopuses, starfish, and sea slugs — all caught locally by fishermen, divers, and community members, then returned to the sea after a maximum of four weeks. This sustainable model ensures exhibits change regularly, offering fresh discoveries on every visit. Hourly touchpool sessions during the summer season allow children and adults to handle sea creatures, making this a wonderfully hands-on and educational experience for families and wildlife enthusiasts exploring the Inner Hebrides.
