Nairobi National Park

Nairobi National Park is Kenya's first gazetted wildlife sanctuary, established in 1946 and located just seven kilometers south of the capital city of Nairobi. The park spans 117 square kilometers of open savanna, riverine forest, and wetlands, making it the only national park in the world situated within a major capital city. It is home to over 100 mammal species including lions, leopards, buffalo, and the critically endangered black rhino, and serves as a major rhino breeding and restocking sanctuary for other parks across Kenya. Birdwatchers will find over 500 species recorded within the park, including seasonal European migrants. Key attractions include the Nairobi Animal Orphanage, which rehabilitates injured and orphaned wildlife, walking trails around the hippo pool, and the historic Ivory Burning Site Monument. Nairobi National Park offers accessible and authentic safari experiences for families, tourists, and city residents throughout the year.
