Nguuni Nature Sanctuary

Nguuni Nature Sanctuary is a restored wildlife reserve located near Mombasa, Kenya, often referred to as the Green Lungs of Mombasa for its remarkable transformation from an abandoned quarry into a thriving natural habitat. The sanctuary covers a diverse landscape of acacia woodland and wetlands and is home to over 250 bird species as well as wildlife including giraffes, ostriches, oryx, and waterbuck. Visitors can enjoy guided nature walks, birdwatching, camping, and picnicking in a tranquil green setting just outside the city. Managed by the nonprofit Baobab Trust, Nguuni also operates a solar-powered education centre with a library of over 11,500 books serving local schools, and a health clinic providing immunizations and community care. Welcoming approximately 30,000 visitors annually, Nguuni Nature Sanctuary seamlessly combines wildlife conservation, environmental education, and community development.
