Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium

Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium is one of only six combined zoo and aquarium institutions in the United States, set on 77 acres of Highland Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The zoo is home to more than 4,000 animals representing 475 species, including 32 threatened or endangered species. Major habitats include the Asian Forest with snow leopards and Siberian tigers, the 16-acre African Savanna featuring lions, zebras, giraffes, elephants, and black rhinos, and the Tropical Forest Complex housing one of North America's largest western lowland gorilla troops along with orangutans and cotton-top tamarins. The 45,000-square-foot aquarium presents aquatic habitats themed around the diversity of water, including a tropical rainforest gallery, a Pennsylvania freshwater exhibit, and a penguin habitat with king, macaroni, and Gentoo penguins. Accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and participating in 25 Species Survival Plans, the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium is a leader in wildlife conservation and family education.
