Rockhampton Zoo is a free-admission zoo set within the beautiful grounds of the Rockhampton Botanic Gardens in Queensland's Capricorn region. The zoo is home to more than 60 species of Australian and exotic animals, including chimpanzees, small-clawed otters, meerkats, koalas, wombats, red and eastern grey kangaroos, dingoes, saltwater crocodiles, goannas, frilled-neck lizards, turtles, frogs, and diverse birdlife such as wedge-tailed eagles, emus, cassowaries, and macaws. An Australian Wetlands zone showcases the region's aquatic wildlife. Zookeepers deliver informative animal talks and feeding sessions throughout the day, and picnic areas and a children's playground make it an ideal outing for families. Open daily from 9 am to 4:15 pm, the zoo is a beloved community landmark in central Queensland.
