Rosamond Gifford Zoo

The Rosamond Gifford Zoo is a nationally accredited zoological park located at Burnet Park in Syracuse, New York, ranked among the top ten percent of zoos in North America by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Spanning 43 acres, the zoo is home to more than 1,300 animals representing nearly 300 species, including Asian elephants, Amur tigers, Amur leopards, snow leopards, Komodo dragons, Humboldt penguins, and red pandas. Notable exhibits include the expansive Primate Park with siamangs, colobuses, and patas monkeys, as well as a Domestic Animal Barn featuring rare heritage livestock breeds. The zoo participates in numerous AZA Species Survival Plans and partners with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on native species recovery efforts. A state-of-the-art Animal Health Center, the largest zoological medical facility in New York outside the Bronx Zoo, opened in 2022, underscoring the institution's deep commitment to animal care and conservation.
