Ruaha National Park

Ruaha National Park is Tanzania's largest protected wildlife area, covering more than 20,000 square kilometres in the remote southwest of the country near Iringa. The park is celebrated for its extraordinary concentrations of wildlife, including one of East Africa's largest elephant populations, and supports approximately 10 percent of Africa's remaining lion population. All three African big cats are present, along with African wild dogs, spotted hyenas, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, greater kudu, sable and roan antelope, and an impressive bird checklist of around 570 species. The Great Ruaha River is a focal point for wildlife viewing, particularly during the dry season from June to October. Far less crowded than Tanzania's northern circuits, Ruaha offers an authentic, wilderness safari experience of exceptional quality.
