Sanaa Zoo

Sanaa Zoo, established on 30 May 1999 on a 57,816-square-metre site in the Yemeni capital Sanaa, is a public zoological garden inspired partly by the older zoo in the city of Ta'izz and designed to provide both recreation and a contribution to the conservation of indigenous species. The zoo is home to more than 1,900 animals representing a wide variety of species, including lions, Arabian leopards, wolves, bears, hyenas, monkeys, ostriches, crocodiles, hawks, and numerous birds. Among its most notable residents are rare and endangered Yemeni wildlife such as the Arabian leopard and the Yemeni ibex. The zoo serves as an important centre for public education about Yemen's unique native fauna and the urgency of preserving threatened species. Located in the heart of Sanaa, the zoo has historically been a popular gathering place for families and nature enthusiasts throughout the city.
