Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo in Gainesville, Florida, is a unique 10-acre zoological facility on the Santa Fe College campus and the only AZA-accredited zoo at a community college in the United States. Founded in 1970, the zoo is home to over 70 species and more than 200 individual animals — including bald eagles, white-handed gibbons, white-throated capuchin monkeys, red ruffed lemurs, American alligators, Galapagos tortoises, and Matschie's tree kangaroos — all cared for by students enrolled in the college's Zoo Animal Technology program. A shaded, mulch-lined quarter-mile trail is stroller and wheelchair accessible, and visitors enjoy animal encounters, birthday parties, field trips, and festive events like Boo at the Zoo and Party for the Planet throughout the year.
