Sognefjord Aquarium

Sognefjord Aquarium is a marine activity centre situated in the heart of Balestrand, a picturesque village on the shores of the Sognefjord in western Norway. The aquarium displays around 100 different species of fish and sea creatures across 24 individual tanks, using unfiltered seawater to provide an authentic representation of the fjord's aquatic ecosystem. Exhibits include a plankton display, a scale model of the Esefjorden, a small cinema, and Gallery Munken, featuring 50 wooden carvings depicting traditional life by the fjord. Entry includes one hour of canoe or rowing-boat hire, and visitors can also borrow a rowboat for fishing on the fjord. Open seasonally from mid-May through September, the aquarium makes a memorable and educational stop for families and travellers exploring the western fjords of Norway.
