The Tasmanian Devil Unzoo is an innovative wildlife experience located at Taranna on the Tasman Peninsula, approximately an hour's drive from Hobart, Tasmania. Operating on an "unzoo" philosophy, the attraction has removed traditional cages, fences, and aviaries, returning its grounds to natural bushland and installing nesting boxes to allow wildlife to roam freely. Visitors can join expert-guided nature walks to come face-to-face with resident Tasmanian devils, hand-feed forester kangaroos, and encounter wallabies, echidnas, native parrots, wattlebirds, and nearly 100 wild bird species along easy bushland trails. The half-day Devil Tracker 4WD Eco-Tour takes guests into nearby forest to observe one of the last isolated, disease-free wild devil populations in the world through night cameras. The Unzoo plays a critical conservation role in preserving the endangered Tasmanian devil and its unique island ecosystem.
