The Reef Vanuatu Zoological is a wildlife conservation and education centre located a short drive from Port Vila on the island of Efate, Vanuatu. Founded in 1997 by local conservationists concerned about the declining populations of the archipelago's native wildlife, the sanctuary focuses on rescuing and rehabilitating indigenous species rather than capturing them from the wild. Resident animals include Hawksbill and Green Sea Turtles, Fijian banded iguanas, fruit bats, coconut crabs, geckos, lizards, and a variety of other native creatures. A highlight of any visit is the opportunity to handle and interact closely with many of the animals, and the sanctuary's location directly adjoins a pristine natural reef offering spectacular snorkelling among starfish, tropical fish, coral, eels, and other marine life. Every dollar earned by The Reef Vanuatu Zoological is reinvested directly into animal care, making it both an engaging and genuinely conservation-focused destination.
