Weaselhead Flats

Weaselhead Flats is a 237-hectare natural area in southwest Calgary, Alberta, forming a unique urban wilderness where the Elbow River meets the Glenmore Reservoir to create the city's only river delta. The area encompasses marshes, sandbars, and one of Calgary's largest stands of coniferous forest, providing exceptional habitat for an impressive range of wildlife. Visitors may encounter loons, swans, shorebirds, multiple hummingbird species, crossbills, and notably black bears, making it one of the best spots for bear observation within Calgary's park system. Hiking trails, cross-country ski routes, and multi-use pathways wind through varied ecosystems offering outstanding opportunities for wildlife watching, nature photography, and outdoor recreation year-round. Located at 66 Avenue and 37 Street S.W. and open from 5 AM to 11 PM daily, Weaselhead Flats offers families and nature lovers a remarkable wild escape within the city.
