Western North Carolina Nature Center

The Western North Carolina Nature Center is a 42-acre zoological park operated by the City of Asheville, North Carolina, and accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Situated just ten minutes from downtown Asheville, the center is home to more than 60 species of animals native to the southern Appalachian Mountains, including red pandas, American river otters, black bears, red wolves, cougars, bobcats, and gray foxes. The facility is one of only about 40 AZA-accredited institutions where visitors can see red wolves, the world's most endangered canine species. Key exhibits include Otter Falls, the Appalachian Predators area, an indoor reptile and amphibian gallery, and a working farm barn showcasing traditional Appalachian livestock. Welcoming over 100,000 visitors annually, the center blends conservation, education, and engaging family-friendly programming into an enriching Appalachian wildlife experience.
