Zoo of Sahara is a desert wildlife park and botanical garden located in Tozeur, an oasis city in southwestern Tunisia at the gateway to the Sahara Desert. One of the oldest zoological facilities in the country, the zoo opened in 1933 and is home to over 20 species of desert-adapted animals, including fennec foxes, dromedaries, striped hyenas, gazelles, desert monitors, scorpions, sand vipers, horned vipers, and a variety of raptors. Visitors are guided through a tropical garden planted with palm trees, banana trees, bougainvillea, and jasmine before exploring the animal park, where expert guides bring select animals up close for an immersive Saharan wildlife experience.
