Zoológico Totorilla

Zoológico Totorilla, officially known as Parque Zoológico La Totorilla, is an ecological zoo and research center located in Ayacucho, Peru, administered by the Universidad Nacional San Cristóbal de Huamanga. The park is dedicated to the study and conservation of endemic Andean animal species and houses approximately 260 vertebrate species, including Andean condors, eagles, hawks, spectacled bears, llamas, vicuñas, felines, small mammals, and tortoises. A newer addition to the facility is the Aquamundo aquarium, which displays freshwater fish representative of the region, such as carachama, eels, angelfish, catfish, and trout. The zoo features naturalistic mini-habitats along marked trails that mimic the natural environments of its animal residents. Open daily from 8 AM to 6 PM with very affordable admission, La Totorilla offers families, students, and nature enthusiasts in the Ayacucho region an engaging encounter with the remarkable wildlife of the Peruvian Andes.
